Medical Billing Services Group (MBSG) organizes billing work around specialty-specific playbooks instead of one generic process. A cardiology claim fails for different reasons than a behavioral health claim, and each specialty below gets coding review, denial workflows, and payer follow-up tuned to its own rules.

Why specialty-specific billing matters
Generic billing treats every claim the same; specialty billing does not. Procedure coding, modifier usage, medical-necessity documentation, and payer medical policies all shift by specialty — and the denial patterns shift with them. Our approach: map each specialty’s highest-frequency denial causes, build the coding review and front-end checks around them, and report performance against the KPIs that matter for that specialty. Coding positions reference current CMS code sets, including the CMS NCCI Medicare Policy Manual (https://www.cms.gov/medicare/coding-billing/national-correct-coding-initiative-ncci-edits/medicare-ncci-policy-manual) and FY2027 ICD-10-CM codes effective October 1, 2026 (https://www.cms.gov/medicare/coding-billing/icd-10-codes); last reviewed 2026-10-07. General educational information, not legal advice or a guarantee of reimbursement. Requirements vary by payer, plan, setting, and date of service.
Planned specialty pages
The dedicated specialty pages below are in development. Each will cover the specialty’s coding rules, common denial causes, and payer quirks — with its target URL noted in parentheses.
- Behavioral health billing (planned: /specialties/behavioral-health/): session-based coding, authorization-heavy payers, and telehealth place-of-service rules.
- Cardiology billing (planned: /specialties/cardiology/): diagnostic and interventional procedure coding, stress-test documentation, and NCCI procedure bundling.
- Dermatology billing (planned: /specialties/dermatology/): lesion-count coding, cosmetic-versus-medical necessity splits, and pathology billing coordination.
- Emergency medicine billing (planned: /specialties/emergency-medicine/): high-volume claim flow, E/M leveling documentation, and out-of-network payer dynamics.
- Family practice billing (planned: /specialties/family-practice/): preventive-versus-problem visit coding, chronic-care management, and payer mix complexity.
- OB/GYN billing (planned: /specialties/obgyn/): global obstetric packages, ultrasound coding, and procedure-heavy visit documentation.
- Orthopedics billing (planned: /specialties/orthopedics/): surgical coding and modifiers, implant and DME billing, and prior authorization intensity.
- Pediatrics billing (planned: /specialties/pediatrics/): vaccine administration coding, well-child visit rules, and Medicaid-heavy payer mixes.
- Physical therapy billing (planned: /specialties/physical-therapy/): timed-code units, KX modifier thresholds, and visit-limit authorization tracking.

FAQs
Why does my specialty need its own billing playbook?
Because coding rules, documentation requirements, and the most common denial reasons differ by specialty. A playbook built around your specialty’s denial patterns catches problems a generic process misses.
Do you bill for specialties not listed above?
Possibly. The nine pages above are the first wave; contact us to ask about your specialty.
Will my billing team need to change how they document?
Sometimes, in small ways. If the audit finds documentation gaps that cost you revenue, we will recommend specific fixes — nothing is changed without your agreement.
How do I get started?
Get a free billing audit. It shows your denial patterns by category, which is the fastest way to see whether specialty-specific billing would help.
